Getting rid of Stretch Marks after Weight Loss - Stretch Mark Cream Reviews

Updated on July 23, 2009

Get rid of Stretch Marks

So I’ve had quite a few unsightly stretch marks in the past and still have a few and I’ve tried many different creams and oils. I will breakdown what worked best for me. Remember when fighting stretch marks you will always have more success removing them when they are still new or are a reddish color when they turn into a white’ish color they are more permanent and harder to get rid of.

Moisture – Moisturizing Inside and Out

Moisture is very important and I’m sure after trying to lose a bit of weight you have heard everyone telling you to increase your water intake. When you’ve reached your desired weight or still continuing to lose weight it’s important to make sure you’re well hydrated and your skin is able to adapt to your changing body without becoming dry and stretched.

We need to keep our skin moist and hydrated to help smooth out stretch marks or even prevent them from occurring. Remember around 2 gallons of water a day is recommended and I know it’s hard to consume this much water, so get it from different sources, your fruits and vegetables

Stretch Mark Cream Reviews

I’ve tried quite a lot of stretch mark creams, probably went a bit crazy and just tried everything there’s so much choice I’ll go through what I tried and what worked best for me.

Stretch mark creams can take a long time to work depending on how severe your stretch marks are so don’t give up on your cream after a couple weeks the only way to know if its working or not is to check progress at around 2-3 months of consistent use. I know its frustrating I have given up on many creams after 2-3 weeks.

Bio Oil Review – Purcellin Oil

So recently Bio Oil has become the new craze and people have been buying up bottles like hotcakes. It’s due to a newly discovered so called miracle oil called Purcellin Oil.

It claims to much better absorbed into the skin than other oils and creams, and can be used to treat many skin conditions such as ageing skin, dehydrate skin, uneven skin tones and of course stretch marks.

With your Oil based skin products I find the best way to get them to absorb is to use heat. You can either create heat by doing a circular massaging action to rub the oil into affected area’s. This will create some heat and open up your pores and get that oil into your skin.

Bio Oil Stretch Mark Results

I used this cream for around 2 months, and noticed some improvements mainly in how nice and hydrated my skin appeared. My stretch did appear to be lesser than before but was not a significant improvement. I believe you really need to use for about 6 months before making any judgment these. These oil based products usually take sometime to work.

More Stretch Mark Cream Reviews

L-Carnitine Stretch Mark Cream

Now for my favourite stretch mark cream and the one I’ve had most success with, it’s the stretch mark cream with added L-Carnitine. L-Carnitine is a naturally made amino acid in your body and helps control your metabolism and helps you to use fat as fuel and is a great way to help you loose weight.

Usually you take L-Carnitine orally or create it from essential amino acids so I was intrigued to see a cream based one. I used this cream for around 1 month and still using it at this time and have had great results it definitely has made my skin tighter and stretch marks do appear much lighter.

It would be a good idea to take L-Carnitine orally and with the stretch mark cream to get double benefit. Remember L-Carnitine is not recommended for people with diabetes or heart problems, with this being said I think its more a warning as L-Carnitine is natural and our bodies make it on there own after breaking down amino acids from protein.

White tea and green tea cream

Now for the White tea and green tea stretch mark cream, the only thing I can say about this cream is that it had good moisturizing properties but other than that I don’t know how affected tea is on stretch marks.

Maybe you’re absorbing some antioxidants or even the caffeine from the green tea. Which could possibly help but I didn’t see any results with this one.

Vitamin E oil for Stretch Marks

Another good stretch mark treatment is using pure vitamin E oil. It is great at moisturizing the skin but will take quite some time to see results. Its also excellent for smoothing out uneven skin tones.

Massaging Stretch Marks

Massaging your stretch marks is very important , when massaging your stretch marks, use strong circular motions and imaging smoothing out the stretch marks. It’s a good idea to massage your stretch marks daily, 2 to 3 times a day if possible.

Nu brush or Shower Massage Brush

I originally bought the Nu Brush for a scalp massage in the shower but then found in my little brochure it could be used for smoothing out stretch marks and removing cellulite by improving circulation.

I have been using the shower massage brush on my stretch marks for a couple weeks and you definitely feel it smoothing out your stretch marks and improving blood flow.

Professional Massage – Swiss Rollers

If all else fails you could try pampering yourself and going to a day spa to get a full body massage or if your near Switzerland I hear they do an amazing stretch mark massage that pretty much involves you going into a car wash type thing and these large rollers roll out your stretch marks. I hear it can be quite painful :P ouch
